Occupational Health Safety & Environment Unit

The Pulp and Paper Industry Occupational Health, Safety & Environment (OHS&E) Unit was established in 1991 to strategically improve safety across the industry.

This role was later expanded to encompass aspects of environmental management within the Pulp and Paper Industry.

The OHS&E Unit functions throughout the Australian Pulp and Paper Industry - particulary in New South Wales; South Australia; Tasmania and Victoria.

The unit operates under a consultative arrangement between the CFMEU Pulp and Paper Workers' Branch and major industry employers; Amcor Fibre Packaging, SCA Hygiene Australasia, Kimberly Clark Australia, Paperlinx and Huhtamaki.

Annual contributions from all stakeholders fund the OHS&E Unit's activities and staff.

The strategic focus of the OHS&E Unit ensures a national approach to improving health and safety within the industry. This is accomplished through a range of activities that achieve change at the local level which, when combined, create wider changes across the industry.

This strategic project work is complemented by the site visits, committee representation, publications and safety based training that the OHS&E Unit undertakes within the industry.
